Road Trip Day 2 – Corowa to Melbourne   Leave a comment

400+20km on the bike into my Melbourne/Sydney road trip and I’m still in the border town of Corowa.

Years ago when the state of Victoria had banned gambling, NSW border towns like this one did a roaring trade when they built these massive clubs where the good people from Melbourne could spend the weekend feeding the pokies with their hard earned cash. The RSL I went too last is a fine example of this, a huge club for a town on 4k people!

Broke camp this morning and after packing the car up, I went on a ride around the many bike trails they’ve created up and down the Murray River. There were hundreds of people camping along the river banks and most them seemed to have a boat with them. After a swim in the campsite pool, I’ve come into town to grab something to eat before heading back on the road again…

693+29 km into my Melbourne/Sydney road trip and I’ve arrived in St Kilda, Melbourne which will be my base for the next couple of nights. A bit of a slog down the Hume Highway from Corowa with only a couple comfort breaks to ease the boredom. Mind you, listening to the English put it up the Aussies in the cricket helped! Roll on tomorrow at the MCG.
