Road Trip Day 1 – Canberra to Corowa   Leave a comment

Boxing Day, 2013

100km into my Melbourne/Sydney road trip and decided to drop into one of these Driver Revivers that dot the major highways between the cities. These places provide free tea/coffee to long distance travellers and this one is run by the VRA who provide local rescue services, the lady on the left is from London and has lived in Canberra and the local area for forty years.

275km into the Melbourne/Sydney road trip and I’m at Holbrook, home of the landlocked submarine! You see the oddest things along the road here, this is a typical example along with ‘A Dog on the Tuckerbox’ at Gundagai further back along the Hume Highway.

400km into my Melbourne/Sydney road trip and I’ve stopped for the night at the Rivergum Holiday Retreat just outside the town of Corowa near Albury. Nice site just alongside the river with lots of cabins and caravan pitches, but not too many people camping. There’s a pool and clubhouse, but I think I’ll head into the RSL club in town for something to eat and a bit of entertainment.

BTW, I’ve been listening to the Ashes Test match all the way down and although England have done quite well, we seemed to have lost wickets at crucial moments in the day. Hope things pick up for Saturday when I’m going to the MCG to watch Day three with James, Grainne and their three sons.
