Taronga Zoo   Leave a comment

After the abortive attempt to visit Sydney Zoo in June. I thought it was time that we tried again, so after Ciara had finished work yesterday, we jumped in the car and drove up to Lawrence and Barbara’s place in south Sydney in order to spend the evening with them catching up and then to visit Taronga Zoo today.

Wanted to get going early doors so that we could spend the full day (Sunday opening times 9:30am – 4:30pm) at the zoo but with one thing and another, Ciara not getting up, missing the train and having to wait another 30 minutes for the next one, we didn’t arrive at the Sydney Ferry wharf until gone noon. The zoo is on the North shore of Sydney Harbour and the best way to get there is via the dedicated ferry that departs after 30 minutes from Circular Quay and then using the Sky Safari to transport you up to the entrances at the top of the hill. Of course, doing it this way lets you get a great view of the Opera House and Bridge as you sail out of the Quay and an aerial view of the Zoo itself as you sail over the main body of the zoo in the cable car.

Well, that was the plan, but as usual the best laid plans never seem to work out and when we got to the Sky Safari, we found out that we should have bought a ticket back at the ticket office on Circular Quay. So we jumped on the bus that took us up the hill to the main entrance.

Once we were in the zoo itself, it was a simple process of following the paths that meander down the hill through the various enclosures and exhibits. Taronga Zoo is located in some of the best real estate in Sydney with its million dollar views across the Harbour as you can see in the pictures below.

It was a bit of a rush towards the end of the day in order to get everything in, but all in all we really enjoyed our day out at the zoo. Unfortunately, as we were late getting into the zoo and stayed till closing time, we had top dash back to Lawrence and Barbara’s, grab a quick cup of tea and a chat before we setting off for the journey back to Canberra and the new school week.
