Queen’s Birthday Parade   Leave a comment

Saturday, 9th June, 2012

After getting Ciara off to work, I jumped on my bike and rode the 12k down to Gallipoli Reach on the north shore of Lake Burley Griffin where the military parade to celebrate the Queen’s Official Birthday was being held. Another beautiful crisp sunny day in Canberra and the ride down was uneventful (I must be getting fitter, as it used to kill me!). As I pulled up at the foreshore, the parade was just getting underway and even though there was a large crowd, I had no trouble finding a place where I could watch the whole event.

The band struck up a tune and the troops (this time dressed in their best dress uniforms) marched onto the parade square in neat lines. There followed much shouting of orders, inspecting of troops, displaying of flags and playing of rousing military music until finally, they all marched of the parade square to a well deserved round of applause by all those watching.

Didn’t hang around after the finale, as I had to rode back up to Woden, grab a shower and prepare for our weekend trip to Sydney. More of which will be posted on this blog soon…..
