Lake Burley Griffin, Western Basin   Leave a comment

Sunday, 27th May 2012

Another beautiful day and with Ciara and two of her friends occupying the apartment after a sleepover, we decided to take ourselves off for another long walk. This time we opted for the 17km trip round the western basin of Lake Burley Griffin. Therefore, after an excellent cooked breakfast (can’t understand why young girls don’t enjoy a fry up!) Gail and donned our walking gear and sunglasses, jumped in the car and drove down to the SCC Yacht Club in Yarralumla.

Gail and Mark had walked the Western basin back in March but this was my first time round it on foot. Three hours, Gail said it would take us and so after deciding to walk round anti-clockwise, we set off at a decent pace towards the Commonwealth Road Bridge. Three later we were back at the car. There’s a lot to see and do on the way round, but we didn’t stop for anything bar a couple toilet breaks and a blister on my toe! Gail was a bit disappointed with the pace and reckoned that I had slowed her down (and to prove her point, she did the same walk on the foloowing Tuesday in 2 hours 45 minutes, Yeah Right!).

Ciara and her friends had taken themselves into town for the afternoon so we returned home, showered, tidied up and then went to pick them up in order to drop them off at their homes.
